Teresa Teng, sometimes spelled or written as Teresa Tang or Teresa Deng, was a popular and influential Chinese pop singer. She was born in Baozhong Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan, on 29 January 1953, to Waishengren parents. Her father (from Daming, Hebei) was a soldier in the Republic of China Armed Forces; her mother was from Dongping, Shandong. The only daughter in the family, she had three older brothers and a younger brother. She was educated at Ginling Girls High School in Sanchong Township, Taipei County, Taiwan.

She recorded many memorable songs, including "When Will You Return?" In addition to her Mandarin repertoire, she also recorded songs in Taiwanese, Cantonese, Japanese, English and some few Indonesian.

Teng died from a severe asthma attack in 1995, aged 42. In April 2015, a set of four stamps featuring Teng were released by the Chunghwa Post. In May 2002, the wax figure of Teng was unveiled at Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong. Rap icon Eminemhas received a Brit Billion Award from the BPI, marking seven billion U.K. streams as calculated by the Official Charts Company. The artist holds a U.K. record for most consecutive No. 1s on the Official Albums Chart, with 10 studio albums topping the list in succession.

Recently, Eminem scored his 11th U.K. No. 1 single with “Houdini” and his 11th No.1 album with “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” Over 60 of his songs have been Brit Certified, with 15 certified multi-platinum. His top three streamed hits have accumulated over 770 million U.K. streams.

The Brit Billion award, launched in 2023, has recognized 39 artists for surpassing one billion U.K. career streams, including diverse acts like Green Day, The Rolling Stonesand Billie Eilish.

This award reflects streaming’s impact on the music industry, with over 85% of U.K.’s recorded music consumption now occurring through streaming.
