Getty was a renowned professional piano player, accompanying various opera singers. Marcia was also blessed with one sister and best friend, Paula. Marcia graduated from the class of '67 at Westport High School in Louisville, KY and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1971 with a double major in math and computer science followed up later with a master's in education. Marcia began her 10 year career at IBM as one of the first women program analysts. Marcia found her chosen career as a teacher in math and computer science at both Jessamine East and West Jessamine. She loved her students and proudly encouraged them to create award-winning movies. She was highly respected by her students and faculty. Marcia often stayed after school to manage a computer science lab for the students.
