Abstract/Summary

The present study dealt with the preparation of Genoveva Edroza Matute's literary biography and a critical edition of her short stories. To prepare the literary biography, oral interview was conducted with the author herself. This was supplemented by biographical accounts from her own collections of short stories and from anthologies that included her stories compiled by other authors and critics. Si Genoveva Edroza-Matute (3 Enero 1915 – 21 Marso 2009) ay isang bantog na kuwentistang Pilipino. Isa rin siyang guro at may-akda ng aklat sa Balarilang Tagalog, na nagturo ng mga asignaturang Filipino at mga asignaturang pang-edukasyon.

Nagturo siya ng apatnapu’t anim na taon sa elementarya, sekundarya at kolehiyo, at nagretiro bilang Dekana ng Pagtuturo sa Dalubhasaang Normal ng Pilipinas (ngayon ay Pamantasang Normal ng Pilipinas) noong 1980. Pinarangalan siya ng Sentrong Pangkultura ng Pilipinas ng Gawad CCP Para sa Sining (Panitikan) noong Pebrero 1992

Genoveva Dizon Edroza-Matute (January 3, 1915 – March 21, 2009) was a Filipino author. In 1951, she was the recipient of the first ever Palanca Award for Short Story in Filipino, for "Kuwento ni Mabuti", which has been cited as the most anthologized Tagalog language short story.[1][2][3]

Early life

She was born in Manila on January 3, 1915, to Anastacio Edroza and Maria Magdalena Dizon. Matute is the creator of the popular radio program and television series, "The Story of the Boys", in the 50s.

Educational life

She studied at Manila North High School (now Arellano High School), Philippine Normal School, (now Philippine Normal University), and the University of Santo Tomas. She taught for 46 years at Cecilio Apostol Elementary School and Arellano High School, and served as chair of the Philippine Depa
