BMX World Championships: Liam Phillips riding 'better than ever'

Great Britain's Liam Phillips says he is riding "better than ever" as he aims to reclaim the BMX World Championships title in Belgium this week.

Phillips, 26, was world champion in 2013 and won the 2014 World Cup Series.

"I certainly would love to wear that jersey again," said Phillips, who crashed out of last year's World Championships.

"We've done a lot of work on the technical side but I've also made some really good physical gains."

Phillips is fourth in the BMX Supercross World Cup series, having won the opener in Manchester before crashing in the Papendal edition in May.

He is one of five GB riders - with 2014 world bronze medallist Tre Whyte, Kyle Evans, Quillan Isidore and Charlotte Green - taking part in the World Championships in Zolder., external

The time trial will take place on Friday and the supercross event on Saturday.

"I know that come race day if I can execute I should be in contention to challenge for the podium," said
