Early Life and Education
Professor Samii was born in Tehran on June 20th, 1937. His father and mother were from Rasht and Shiraz respectively. After some years living in Tehran, they eventually went back to Rasht. Samii studied the elementary education and high school in this city and finally applied to a university in Germany.
In an interview, he indicated that he discovered his enthusiasm to neurosurgery when he was just 11 years old. Therefore, he studied biology and medicine in Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. During the years of studying in Germany, Majid Samii could win the Iran Ministry of Science Special Award for being the best Iranian student in Europe.

History
In the last 40 years Prof. Madjid Samii deeply influenced the education of a large number of neurosurgeons who have become today's leading neurosurgeons working in the five continents around the world. The majority of these doctors are responsible for the education of young neurosurgeons, and are working to keep Dr. Samii's philosophy. In 2002, some former pupils of Prof. Madjid Samii founded a group called MASCIN, Madjid Samii Congress of International Neurosurgeons. This group was headed by Klaus von Wild from Münster, Germany, Ricardo Ramina from Curitiba, Brazil and Marcos Tatagiba from Tübingen, Germany. The aim of MASCIN was to give continuity of Samii's philosophy, operative technique and management principles in the different fields of neurological surgery.

Majid Samii (Persian: مجید سمیعی, born 19 June 1937[3]) is an Iranian[4][5]neurosurgeon and medical scientist.[6]
Biography
Samii was born in Tehran, Iran on 19 June 1937. After having completed his high school education in Iran, he moved to Germany, where he started his medical studies at the University of Mainz.[7]
He has been the president of the International Society for Neurosurgery and was elected as the founding president of MASCIN – "Madjid Samii Congress of International Neurosurgeons" in 2003.[8]
Samii received the "Physician" award by the north German city of Hanover. Former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder hailed the 70-year-old Samii for his medical contribution to neuroscience as head of the International Neuroscience Institute (INI), based in Hanover.
He is the president of the International Neuroscience Institute (INI).[9]
