Lucy Walker is an English film director. She has directed the feature documentaries Devil's Playground (2002), Blindsight (2006), Waste Land (2010), Countdown to Zero (2010), The Crash Reel (2013), Buena Vista Social Club: Adios (2017), Bring Your Own Brigade (2021), and Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa (2023). She has also directed the short films The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom (2011) and The Lion's Mouth Opens (2014). Waste Land was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject).
Film career
Devil's Playground, Walker's first feature documentary, examined the struggles of Amish teenagers during their period of experimentation (rumspringa). It premiered at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival.

Lucille Walker
Lucille Mary Walker, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away on March 5, 2024, in East Lansing at the age of 96. She was born on October 17, 1927, in Lansing, Michigan.
Lucille was a dedicated individual who worked with the State of Michigan in the Licensing and Regulation department. Her commitment and hard work left a lasting impact on those around her.
She is survived by her husband of 76 years, Howard L. Walker Jr., her children Gregory Walker (Tamara) and Cynthia (Walker) Thrush, her grandchildren Gregory Walker Jr, Ryan Walker (Amanda), and John Thrush, and her great-grandchildren Carter Walker, Cayden Walker, Brianna Walker, and Joy Thrush.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Pauline Cook, and her siblings John Cook, William Cook, Doris (Cook) Slater, and Loretta (Cook) Burr.
Lucille's memory will be cherished by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.

Lucy Walker was an early member of the Latter-day Saint movement and one of the plural wives of founder Joseph Smith. She was secretly sealed to Smith without the knowledge or consent of Smith's first wife, Emma Smith.[1]: 463 Lucy was 17 at the time, while Smith was 36-years-old.[2]
Lucy became Smith's foster daughter after her mother passed away, and Smith sent her father on a mission. Smith welcomed Lucy and three of her sisters into his home and called them his "daughters."[2]
Shortly after, Smith revealed the secret doctrine of polygamy to Lucy and proposed, saying that the marriage was a "command from God" and if she refused, "the gate will be closed forever against you". Lucy refused, stating that God must manifest His will to her regarding the matter, and told him to never speak of it again. After two sleepless nights, where she considered suicide, she finally agreed to the marriage.
