Biography
Jef Neve was born in Belgium on March 8, 1977. He studied at the Lemmensinstituut in Louvain, and took master classes with Guy de Mey, Brad Mehldau, Martial Solal, Lew Tabackin, Toots Thielemans, Billy Hart, Bill Carothers, Kenny Werner and Bruce Barth. In 2000 Neve graduated with Master of Music degrees in Jazz and classical piano, both with great distinction. In 2001 he specialised in Chamber Music and was awarded 'cum laude'.
Next to his musical education, Neve started to play in local bands at the age of fourteen. He composed a wide variety of pieces for the most divergent ensembles (from piano solo to symphonic orchestra). From seventeen-twenty he played with the popular funk band Mr. Zebedee.
As a freelance pianist Neve performed with various jazz bands, classical ensembles and pop bands including Belgian boy band f.ex. Get Ready. Neve also performed in theatre productions, studio sessions and solo performances with the Flemish

Jef Neve (born 8 March 1977) is a Belgian jazz and classical music pianist and composer. Neve was born in Turnhout, Belgium. By the age of 14 he was composing music and playing in bands. He studied jazz and classical music at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven and graduated in 2000.
Neve wrote the soundtrack for Felix Van Groeningen's Dagen Zonder Lief. He also composed for the VRT series In Vlaamse Velden (In Flanders Fields). The pianist played on Ludovic Bource's soundtrack for The Artist.
The Guardian's reviewer of Neve's 2008 release Soul in a Picture commented that the pianist's playing contained "a very personal language, one which draws freely on classical music and – aided and abetted by Piet Verbist (bass) and Teun Verbruggen (drums) – has the impetus of jazz and rock".

Jef Neve (Turnhout, 8 maart1977) is een Belgische pianist en componist.[1]
Levensloop met muzikale carrière
[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]Neve deed middelbare studies, richting Latijn-Moderne Talen aan het Sint-Aloysiuscollege te Geel. Tegelijkertijd volgde hij pianoles aan de stedelijke muziekacademie van Geel bij Hugo Lefever. Verder studeerde hij aan het Lemmensinstituut te Leuven. In 2000 verkreeg hij het diploma van Meester in de muziek optie Jazz en van Meester in de muziek optie piano, beide cum laude. Hij specialiseerde in de finaliteit kamermuziek in 2001 eveneens cum laude. In 2002 werkte hij voor een jaar als pianist en componist voor de Contemporary Dance Company "Dathe" in Londen. In 2004 was hij 'artist in residence' van cultuurhuis De Warande te Turnhout.
Naast zijn opleiding begon Neve al vroeg als actief muzikant in plaatselijke bandjes. In zijn tienerjaren speelde hij bij Mr. Zebedee, een funkband, waardoor hij in contact kwam met de jazz- en bluesmuziek. Ook als freelance pianist maakte hij deel uit van verscheidene muziekgroepen.
