Warren wiersbe be series

Who was Warren Wiersbe?

Answer

Dr. Warren Wendel Wiersbe (1929—2019) was an American pastor, Bible teacher, conference speaker, radio minister, and prolific author. He is best known for his extensive “Be” Bible commentary series and numerous other theological works.

Wiersbe was born and raised in East Chicago, Indiana, an industrialized steel mill town twenty-five miles southeast of Chicago. He was the third and youngest child of Fred and Gladys Anna Wiersbe, faithful members of Indiana Harbor Mission Covenant Church. Even though he was raised in the church, Weirsbe later wrote, “Most of the people in the church would have pointed me out as a ‘good Christian boy,’ but I had never really been born again. . . . I had never made that life-changing decision to trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior” (https://vancechristie.com/2019/07/11/a-good-christian-boy-meets-the-savior-warren-wiersbe/, accessed 4/6/23).

In May 1945, just before his sixteenth birthday, Wiersbe volunteered as an usher at a Youth for Christrally. Standing transfixed at the back of his high school auditor

Dr. Warren Wiersbe (1929-2019) was a student, a disciple, a pastor, a preacher, a teacher, an author, a mentor, and a Christian example. He was born in East Chicago, IN. At a Youth for Christ rally on May 12, 1945, Billy Graham preached the Gospel and Warren trusted Christ as his Savior. That set the direction for his life: to honor Jesus Christ by preaching the Gospel, teaching God’s Word, and building up the church.

He graduated from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1953. He also received honorary doctorates from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and Tennessee Temple University.

While attending Northern Seminary he met his future wife, Betty L. Warren, with whom he shared the joys and burdens of life for almost 66 years. They had four children: David, Carolyn, Robert, and Judy. He enjoyed being a grandfather and great-grandfather (he could magically pull quarters from their ears).

Wiersbe pastored Central Baptist Church in Chicago (1951-1957), was on staff at Youth for Christ (1957-1961), pastored Calvary Baptist Church in Covington, KY (1961-1

Dr. Warren Wiersbe, known as “the pastor’s pastor” and a trusted Bible teacher and writer, died yesterday in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 89. Most people will remember him for his many books—at least 150—while others will remember him for his solid, practical Bible teaching on the Back to the Bible radio program, or his seminars on Sermon Preparation at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and Dallas Theological Seminary. The list of his accomplishments is long.

Wiersbe was a wordsmith par excellence. He called himself a bridge builder, filling leadership roles in times of need and transition. His grandson, Dan Jacobsen, in a beautiful tribute to his grandfather, expressed it eloquently: “His preferred tools were words, his blueprints were the Scriptures, and his workshop was his self-assembled library.” He was master at outlining, writing, and speaking in ways that were engaging, heartfelt, and relevant. His Be commentary series encompasses all the books of the Bible and has been translated into many different languages, selling millions of copies worldwide.
