Indian saint and poet (1898–1968)

Rang Avadhoot, born Pandurang Vitthalapant Valame, (21 November 1898 – 19 November 1968) was a mystic saint-poet belonging to Datta-panth (Gurucharita tradition of Dattatreya) of Hinduism. He was a social worker and independence activist before accepting asceticism. He is credited with the expansion of Datta-panth in Gujarat state of India. He has written more than 45 works, mostly concerning spirituality and devotion.

Early life

Rang Avadhoot was born Pandurang Vitthalapant Valame on 21 November 1898 (Kartika Sud 9 according to Hindu calendar) in Godhra in a Marathi family of Vitthalpant Jairam Valame and Rukmini (née Kashi).[2][3][4] His family belonged to Devle village (now in Sangameshwar taluka of Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra). His father moved to Godhra as a caretaker (pujari) of Viththal temple. His father died in a plague in 1902. He had a brother named Narayan. He met his spiritual teacher (guru) Vasudevanand Saraswati (Tembe Swami) in 1905.[4]

He worked sometime as teacher, and took active part in social and political activities. He left all these, and came to Nareshvar in 1923.

Bapji stayed with holy mother, Rukmamba, guided many on spiritual path, wrote many works, inspired many for social and religious activities.

Bapji left the world bodily on 10-11-1968 (Kartik Krsna 30) at Harwdar.

Introduction

“There was another great being called Ranga Avadhut, whom I used to visit now and then. He was a great scholar and came to our Ashram twice. He lived on the banks of the holy Narmada River and would bathe three times each day.

He always traveled on foot. He would never sit in a car, but occasionally he would ride in a horse carriage. He was a great Siddha.

Pujya Rukmani Ba (Pujya Bapji's Mother) and Pujya Bapji


Pujya Rangavadhoot Maharaj (Pujya Bapji) was born in Godhra, Gujarat, India on Monday, the 21st November (Hindu calendar – 9thday of the month Kartika, Vikram Samvat 1955)  as Panduranga, another name of Lord Vitthala in a very religious Brahmin family known and respected for learning, selflessness and integrity. Pujya Bapjis's father name was Vitthalapanta and mother's name was Rukmini.  Rukmani gave a birth to Panduranga (also known as Babu) on a auspicious data, Akshaya Navami in a small dark room of the Vitthala temple. Panduranga had another brother, Narayana.

Childhood & Education
