Jakob Trollbäck is the founder and Chief Creative Officer of Trollbäck+Company, a New York-based creative agency.

Swedish-born Trollbäck had an early passion for technology and music; he built synthesizers in his teens and owned a record store by the time he reached his twenties. To advertise the nightclub he opened and DJed for in Stockholm, he designed posters on a Macintosh IIC. He was immediately hooked on design, and began creating posters and logotypes for artists and friends. His growing love of typography brought him to a type conference in New York City, where he was seduced by the bustling city and its creative energy. He returned to Stockholm, sold everyth

Speaker bio

A self-taught designer from Sweden, Jakob Trollbäck began his artistic career as a DJ in his native Stockholm. Having found a commonality in music and design, Trollbäck creates pieces that transport his audience to planes of sensorial experience. He is an acknowledged industry leader in both branding and motion graphic design and has had his work featured in the New York Times,  Boards magazine,  Creativity and Print. Trollbäck + Company has received dozens of creative industry awards including those from the Primetime Emmy Awards, AICP, Art Directors Club, PromaxBDA, British D&AD,  Communication Arts Design Annual, The One S

20Q: Jakob Trollbäck

Jakob Trollbäck is a self-taught Swedish designer. He’s also a creative director, motion graphics designer and DJ who creates award-wining work.

1. What items would you put into a time capsule? Myself. Could anything be more interesting than to see the future?

2. If you were told that you had to live inside a work of art, which would you choose? The Guggenheim Museum or a Rothko painting

3. What would you like to have written in your obituary? He was a nice person. He made the world better. We will miss him. Stuff like that. That's something to live up to.

4. How do you define creative success? To work incredibly hard trying to do something different, and suddenly realise that you, in fact, have created something new and unseen.

6. Are there certain characteristics that all creatives possess? Playfulness. They can't seem to conform and are always thinking of different ways to do things.

7. Do you have (m)any unrealised projects?  Too many. It's a burden and a challenge
