Zuhayr b. al-Qayn al-Bajalī (Arabic: زهير بن القين البجلي) was a senior member of the al-Bajila tribe based in Kufa. He was known in Kufa and his tribe as a noble and brave man. He was highly respected in virtue of his attendance in many battles and conquests. In some sources, al-Qayn—Zuhayr's father—is mentioned as one of the companions of the Prophet (s). Zuhayr was a companion of Imam al-Husayn (a) and a high-ranking member of his army who was martyred in the Event of Ashura in Karbala.

Qais bin Zuhair was a tribal leader and owner of a famously fast horse known as Dahis. He challenged the leader of another tribe to a horse race, but they cheated, robbing him of victory. This caused much bad blood between the two tribes and led to a war which would last for 40 years.

Zuhayr ibn QaysCompanion of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and Arab military commander (died 688) Zuhayr ibn Qays al-Balawī (Arabic: زهير بن قيس البلوي) (died 688) was a companion of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and an Arab commander who fought in the service of the Rashidun, Umayyad and Zubayrid caliphs. He played a key role in the early Muslim conquests of Egypt, Barqa (Cyrenaica) and Ifriqiya. When the latter province fell to a Byzantine–Berber alliance in 682, Zuhayr was given command of the army to restore Arab rule. During that campaign, he temporarily retook Kairouan, the Arabs' capital in Ifriqiya, and killed the Berber chief Kasila, but was slain by Byzantine raiders on his way back to Barqa.
