It is interesting to read about the emerging disillusionment of those who believed and invested their hopes so much in Hakainde Hichilema during the run-up to the 12 August 2021, elections and after.

Their unwavering belief and confidence as mortals in the man is, however, understandable. To those who did not delve into his background and his past HH presented himself as the only messiah given the political free fall of the ruling PF under the weak leadership of Edgar Lungu mistaken for the humility of the man’s character.

The PF as the ruling party under ECL did not guarantee any future for the Zambian people.

The intra party violence and systemic indiscipline amongst the rank and file of its members coupled with inter-party violence perpetuated by its militia

Wynter Kabimba, the hard-talking Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general, is a straight man who calls a spade a spade and makes no apologies whatsoever. Currently, he is the third most important person in as far as the PF government is concerned and is seen by some as one of the likely successors of party president Michael Sata. But who exactly is he? Jack Zimba reports.

Wynter Kabimba is slumped in a swivel chair in his office at Godfrey House in Lusaka. There is no pretending the toll his huge responsibility as secretary general of the governing party is having on him.

“You can never find me better than this,” he says, with a wry smile and a pensive look.

The ‘SG’, as he is called by those around him, had just returned from having a meeting with President Michael Sata at State House and outside his office, there was a queue of party cadres seeking audience with him till late in the afternoon.

He has prompted my article herein as being one of the surprise chief mourners of Miles Sampa taking over the PF presidency from people that embarrassingly hounded him out of PF after Sata’s demise in 2014.

Even worse is that the same people are the ones that swept away his nearest every chance to have become the President of Zambia. He was so close yet too far because of his amapilikiti (excitement).

Wynter was the beloved blue eyed boy of Michael Chilufya Sata. They came far from their days at the Lusaka City Council as Mayor and Town Clerk respectively. In later lives both would form political parties of their own. Sata’ Patriotic Front (PF) would have its membership grow annually while the Zambia (something) party of Wynter Kabimba would have single digit membership year in year out.

Meanwhile Miles Sampa was amongst those that were part of supporting Sata to grow his party while Wynter was rival to Sata.
