A lifetime member of the IU Alumni Association, Witte received his bachelor's degree in forensic studies in 1979 and his law degree in 1982, both from IU. Witte, who serves as judge for the Dearborn Superior Court No. 1, was the first Asian American trial judge to be elected in the state of Indiana.
A nationally recognized expert on highway traffic safety legal issues and known for his commitment to improving the public trust in the judicial branch of government and improving the performance of America's judges, Witte has been a faculty member with the National Judicial College of the University of Nevada since 1994. Nominated to the Indiana Court of Appeals in 2008, Witte is the vice-chair of the judicial division of the American Bar Association and will become its chairman in 2011, another Asian American first. In addition, Witte belongs to the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association, American Judges Association, Indiana Judges Association and was appointed to the Indiana Commission on Courts.

Michael Witte (born 1944) is an American-born illustrator and cartoonist.
Witte has been a regular contributor to TIME, Harper’s, Rolling Stone, Fortune, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. His art has appeared on the covers of The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, Newsweek, Forbes and the Princeton Alumni Weekly as well as "The New Yorker Book of" cartoon series.[1] He wrote and illustrated the best-selling Book of Terns (1978), Claus! (1982) and also co-wrote Otter Nonsense (1994) with best-selling children's book author Norton Juster.
From 1974 to 1976, Witte collaborated with Mets/Phillies pitching great Tug McGraw on a nationally syndicated, sports-themed comic strip Scroogie. The strips were collected in Scroogie (1976) and Hello There, Ball! (1977). A lifelong baseball fan, Witte later contributed on-the-air cartoon commentary during the 2003 Yankees-Marlins World Series. Since 2005, he has worked as a pitching and hitting mechanics consultant to the St. Louis Cardinals.[2 G. Michael Witte retired in 2021 as the Executive Director of the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission. He was a 2017 recipient of the Sen. Daniel Inouye Trailblazer Award, the highest award given by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. Additionally, the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Indiana bestowed Witte with its first Trailblazer Award and named the award in his honor. Witte was the first Asian American to serve as judge in the State of Indiana. His 25-year judicial career included service as Judge of the Dearborn County Court, Lawrenceburg, IN (1985 – 2000); Judge of the Dearborn Superior Court No. 1 (2000-2008); and Judge of the Wayne Superior Court No. 1, Richmond, IN (2009). He received both his B.A. and J.D. degrees from Indiana University, served as President of the IU McKinney Law School’s Alumni Board in 2009, and was honored in 2008 by the I.U.
