Victoria Bussert is resident director for musical theatre for the Great Lakes Theatre, Idaho Shakespeare Festival and Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. She has taught as a guest faculty member at UNCSA, Kent State, and Northwestern University. She has directed worldwide including productions in Russia, Denmark, Africa, England, and South America. Bussert is the 2019 recipient of the Cleveland Arts Prize for outstanding mid-career artists. Bussert is also a member of SDC.

Review: PETER AND THE STARCATCHER at Great Lakes Theater

Mention author J. M. Barrie, and the immediate thought is Peter Pan.  Peter Pan, the tale of a boy who refused to grow up, which has become a cottage industry.   Dolls, movies, a musical play, coloring books, cartoons, Halloween costumes, a non-musical play, and books are all available.   There is even a psychological condition, “The Peter Pan Syndrome,” which puts the spotlight on men who refuse to assume responsibility for their boyish actions.

Victoria Bussert, winner of mid-career Cleveland Arts Prize, launches musical theater stars

2019 Cleveland Arts Prize, mid-career winner, theater and dance:

Work: Has directed more than 300 shows from Idaho to Brazil to Russia. Heads the music theater program at Baldwin Wallace University.

Schooling: bachelor’s in theater and dance from Barat College, Ill., master’s degrees in theater and direction from Northwestern

Demanding, gushing and networking, Victoria Bussert has turned little Baldwin Wallace University into a big talent pool for Broadway and beyond.

She has also directed more than 300 shows at Playhouse Square, the Beck Center, Cain Park, and other prominent stages on three continents.

Last month, Bussert was announced as a mid-career winner of a 2019 Cleveland Arts Prize for theater and dance. A prize jury praised her both for directing and teaching.
