Famous Evangelist Ron Halvorsen Dies at Age 76
By AT News Team, May 17, 2015: Pastor Ron Halvorsen Sr., the well-known evangelist who baptized more than 11,000 converts during his career, died Friday after battling cancer. He had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma last November. On three previous occasions over his life he had been successful in fighting off cancer and he “believed that he would land on his feet again,” the Adventist Review quoted Ruthie Jacobson, a prayer ministries leader for the Adventist denomination who prayed with Halvorsen just an hour before he passed away. The son is president of the denomination’s Ohio Conference. He asked for prayer for his mother, Carrol, and sister, Diane, a chaplain with Adventist Care Centers. Collegedale church announces new senior pastor
Ron Halvorsen Jr., senior pastor of North Cascade Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Burlington, Washington, will be the next senior pastor of Collegedale Church of Seventh-day Adventists.
Gary Rustad, president of the Georgia-Cumberland Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, announced the decision Saturday morning during worship services, emphasizing Halvorsen’s background as a praying leader who has already pastored three SDA college and university churches.
In a press release issued by the conference, Halvorsen was quoted as saying: “I like working with all the different age groups, but I like the life and vitality that comes with campuses of kindergarten through [graduate] level work and the dynamics of that setting.
“I am excited to again be in a setting working with the schools, working with the church team,” he continued. “While it is a local church, it is also a university and a [K-12] academy church. How can we be a church that reflects Christ to these young people?”

Ron Halvorsen Jr, Ohio Conference president, has accepted an invitation from the Washington Conference to return to pastoral ministry. Halvorsen and his wife Beth “Buffy” Verico Halvorsen, MS, LCMFT, have served in the Ohio Conference since February 2014. During his tenure as president, Halvorsen has focused upon prayer, discipling and young people.
Immediately upon their arrival, the Halvorsens began what they called “Ohio Prays,” a gathering of conference leadership who pray Mondays at noon for pastors, churches, educators and schools within the conference. This grew to include monthly prayer calls led by Buffy. Recognizing the need for many congregations to become healthier and more vibrant, Halvorsen initiated his idea for Disciple Ohio: a practical, tangible way to help churches regain their focus on growing spiritually while assisting members to become more effective disciples in reaching their communities. Because he has a heart for Christian Education, Halvorsen concentrated on strengthening opportunities for Ohio’s academy-aged students to b
